Summer Offerings

Run Ruunaa’s foaming rapids in a traditional and reliable Finnish wooden boat. We gather at Ruunaa Nature House where our transportation takes to the launch site at Matkalahti or Neitikoski (group’s take their own bus). At the Nature House you will receive your equipment and directions from our experienced river guide. Our guide will take you through the old logging float river route. Your trip is topped off with a traditional Karelian buffet. Private groups have the possibility to choose from a variety of dishes. Each participant receives a personalized diploma for completing this exciting rapid run. Daily departures allow for individuals. Group reservations require a minimum of ten participants.

The Wooden Boat Adventure takes you to the eastern side of Ruunaa Lake to the Nature Reserve. Here the great predators of Finland and Russia wander the wilds in peace. The border is designated as a protected nature reserve. This means that the area is kept in its natural state. What we bring in we take out. Only with an approved guide do you get to see the Finnish and Russian border.

Come spend a splashing day on the white waters of Ruunaa. Test the untamed Ruunaa rapids natural power! Of course you will be guided safely through with our professional guides. The journey begins at Ruunaa Nature House where our transportation will take you to Neitikoski. After checking our gear and brief lesson we leave to row the route: Neiti, Kattila, Murroo and Siika Rapids. The journey is approximately 9 km and lasts 2½ hours. We crown the trip with a traditional Karelian buffet. Private groups have the possibility to choose from a variety of dishes. Each participant receives a personalized diploma for completing this exciting rapid run. After the trip you can enjoy relaxing in our real smoke sauna and spend the night in a log cabin. Daily departures allow for individuals. Group reservations require a minimum of ten participants.

Bring your school group to us for a real rapid run and the enjoyment of the untamed wilderness. The call of Nature and her power! Your school group will get first-hand information on how humans are only one small part of the whole. The rapid run gives your students a learning experience of how joint effort and team work get you forward: the boat doesn’t go if the oars don’t row together! Meals taken in Nature offer the learning experience of keeping Nature clean. Littering is not allowed. The phrase “If You Pack It In – Pack It Out!” applies during the journey. Nature is left in its natural condition: we tread carefully with minimal impact. For us renewable development and resources are every-day practices.

 

We gather at Ruunaa’s Nature House or elsewhere by previous agreement. In the area of Ruunaa trails, rest places and covered lean-to are marked and maintained regularly. While hiking through the forest, backpackers can enjoy a moment in the peace of Nature with her surrounding smells and tastes. Muuroo Ring leaves from Rauni’s Cabin near Siika Rapids and goes alongside the rapids route to Murroo Rapids. From there the journey continues to beautiful Vilakan Swamp and returnes to Rauni’s Cabin. The trip is about seven kilometres. We crown the trip with a traditional Karelian buffet. After backpacking you can enjoy our relaxing smoke sauna and overnight in a traditional log cabin. Minimum private group size is ten persons.

Plunge into the clean and clear waters of Siika Lake after the warmth of the smoke sauna. Take an unforgettable moment to watch the summer sun meet the pale night sky. Sleep soundly between crisp, clean sheets in our log cabin. The sauna has room for ten-twelve persons. You can all sauna together in one turn by using a unique Lieksa invention: the sauna apron. The forest strips the group of work titles so everyone can peacefully enjoy a fun time together. This is a great way to be together with your acquaintances and friends. Laugh at yourself and with the others and participate in some of the future Olympic events: Sexual Messaging Relays, Fire-starting, Blind Man’s Mushroom Hunting, to name a few.
